How DateMath counts days from today
DateMath takes today's date from your device and adds the days as calendar days, weekends and holidays included: tomorrow is 1 day from today, so today itself is day 0. A week is always 7 days, so a number of days that divides by 7 lands on today's weekday. The business-day date counts only Monday to Friday, skips the US federal holidays on their observed dates and doesn't count today, like Excel's WORKDAY.
- The Gregorian calendar. DateMath treats every date as a Gregorian date, with its leap-year rule: a year divisible by 4 is a leap year, except century years not divisible by 400, so 2000 had a February 29 and 2100 will not. Source: Gregorian calendar.
- US federal holidays. DateMath skips the 11 annual holidays of 5 U.S.C. 6103 on the days they are observed for federal employees, as the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) lists them: a Saturday holiday on the Friday before, a Sunday holiday on the Monday after. Source: 5 U.S.C. 6103, OPM federal holidays.
DateMath's date math is tested against more than 100 cases worked out by hand. Every worked example and table on the site is computed with the same code the calculators run, so a page and its calculator can't disagree.
Days from today calculator: what date is it in a number of days?
Type a number and the days from today calculator shows the date that many days from today, with its weekday, its day of the year and its ISO week. DateMath reads today's date from your device, so the answer is right for wherever you are, and it counts calendar days: weekends and holidays count like any other day.
Today is day 0. Tomorrow is 1 day from today, the same weekday next week is 7 days from today, and every 7 days bring you back to today's weekday. So for any number, divide by 7: the remainder is how many weekdays later the date falls. 30 days is 4 weeks, 2 days, so 30 days from a Monday is a Wednesday.
Under the date, the calculator shows the same number of US business days from today, skipping weekends and federal holidays, and lists the federal holidays that date skips. Switch the unit to weeks for 2, 6 or 12 weeks from today.
Days from a date, worked out

Days ago calculator: N days ago from today
Choose “Ago” and the calculator counts back instead: the date a number of days ago from today, for questions such as when a 30-day window started or what the date was 90 days back. The rule is the same in reverse, so 30 days ago is 4 weeks, 2 days back and falls two weekdays earlier than today: from a Monday, 30 days ago was a Saturday.
Spans that end today, such as a return window that opened 14 days ago or a 90-day lookback, count today as the last day. If your rule counts both the first day and today, the first day is one day later than the date shown.
Five days from today, and five business days
Five days from today is the weekday five days after today's, weekend included, so from a Monday it is a Saturday. Five business days from today skip the weekend: from a weekday, with no holiday in between, they land on the same weekday next week. Type 5 in the calculator for both dates.
| Today | 5 days from today | 5 business days from today |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Saturday | Monday next week |
| Tuesday | Sunday | Tuesday next week |
| Wednesday | Monday | Wednesday next week |
| Thursday | Tuesday | Thursday next week |
| Friday | Wednesday | Friday next week |
Business days from today
A business day is a weekday that is not a federal holiday. DateMath counts business days from tomorrow, the way Excel's WORKDAY does, skips the 11 annual US federal holidays on their observed dates, and shows the result next to the calendar date. 10 business days from Friday, January 15, 2027 is Monday, February 1, 2027, because Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18, 2027 is skipped; 10 calendar days is Monday, January 25, 2027.
To count the business days between two dates, add business days to another date, or count weekdays only, use the business days calculator.
Why 30 days from today is not a month from today
Months are 28 to 31 days long, so a number of days and the same number of “30-day months” drift apart. When a rule says days, count days here; when it says months, add months with the date calculator, which keeps the day number.
| Days | Days from the date | Months from the date |
|---|---|---|
| 30 days | February 14, 2027 | 1 month: February 15, 2027 |
| 60 days | March 16, 2027 | 2 months: March 15, 2027 |
| 90 days | April 15, 2027 | 3 months: April 15, 2027 |
| 180 days | July 14, 2027 | 6 months: July 15, 2027 |

Frequently asked questions
- How do I find the date a number of days from today?
- Type the number of days and keep "From today": the calculator adds them to today's date and shows the date with its weekday. Today counts as day 0, so 1 day from today is tomorrow and 7 days from today is the same weekday next week.
- How many days from today is a date?
- Use the "Days between dates" tab of the date calculator: it opens with today as the start date, so enter the other date as the end date and read the days. This calculator works the other way, from a number of days to a date.
- How do I find the date a number of days ago?
- Choose "Ago" and type the number: the calculator counts back from today. 30 days is 4 weeks and 2 days, so 30 days ago from a Thursday is a Tuesday.
- What is five days from today?
- The weekday five days after today's: from a Monday it is Saturday, from a Wednesday it is Monday. Type 5 for the exact date. Five business days from a weekday, with no holiday in between, is the same weekday next week.
- Does the calculator count today?
- No. Today is day 0 and the first day counted is tomorrow, the way "in 30 days" is usually meant. If your rule counts today as day 1, the last day is one day earlier than the result.
- What is the difference between days and business days from today?
- Days count every calendar day, weekends and holidays included; business days count only Monday to Friday and skip the US federal holidays on their observed dates. So 10 days from today is a week and 3 days away, while 10 business days from a weekday, with no holiday in between, is the same weekday two weeks later.
- Can I enter weeks instead of days?
- Yes. Switch the unit to Weeks: 6 weeks from today is 42 days from today and falls on today's weekday. The business-day line is shown for days only.
- Is there a page for my number of days?
- The most searched numbers have their own page, from 7 to 270 days from today, and the table on this page links to all of them. For any other number, type it in the calculator: it takes any whole number of days, as long as the date stays within the years 1 to 9999.
- Does a copied link keep today's date?
- No. The link carries the number, the unit and the direction, and counts from the day it is opened, so a link to 30 days from today shows the date 30 days after the day someone opens it.
- Which time zone does today come from?
- Yours. Today is the date your device shows, so the answer moves on by a day at your midnight, and two people in different time zones can see different dates for a few hours.
